Usborne Children's Books was founded in 1973 by Peter Usborne in the United Kingdom. Our books are translated into over ninety languages. This makes Usborne Books one of the largest publishers of children's books in the world. In 1973 , Peter Usborne started the company in England with the belief that to reach children you had to borrow some ideas from the worlds of comics and television. He borrowed select concepts from these two types of media and hired educational consultants to supervise the writing to ensure that the books would maintain the child's interest as well as spark it. The books incorporate puzzles and activities to challenge a young mind as it develops. Their exceptional printing quality and exceptionally well produced graphics, high ration of pictures to text, short magazine-like format and unique detail set our books apart from anything on the market today. Educational Development Corporation (EDC) was founded in 1961 to develop supplemental curriculum material for schools. In 1979 EDC acquired the rights to publish Usborne Children's Books in the United States from Usborne publishing in England. During the 1980's EDC eliminated the other product lines to concentrate exclusively on Usborne Children's Books. On March 1 1989, Usborne Books at Home (UBAH) was created. The home division sells through home shows, direct sales, book fairs and web sites. At Home agents when registered as educational consultants have the right to sell to the school and library market. Being that the books are written in a multitude of languages, the books have a multicultural appeal to them which makes them an instant hit with parents, teachers and administrators throughout the nation.
